Running and Sports Injury Prevention Research Laboratory – ENS Annex 001A

Dr. Rauh conducting research

The goal of my research has been to identify the distributions and determinants of injury in sport and military populations.  Areas of primary research include 1) identifying the incidence and risk factors of injuries among high school runners, 2) determining the prevalence and risk factors for the female athlete triad in high school athletes, and 3) determining risk factors for stress fracture and TBI in military populations.  Much of my research has been conducting using field-research epidemiologic methodology.

Presently, I am examining whether various functional balance-strength and common static measurement tools may help identify high school runners who may be at increased risk of running-related injuries.  At SDSU, I plan to integrate 3-D movement analysis with other demographic, training factors, and clinical measures to help better identify those at higher risk of injury as well as how to return safely back to sport.  Additionally, I am developing algorithms for pre-participatory screening exams to help health professionals and coaches more easily identify athletes at increased risk for the female athlete triad.
